Santa's Float needs your help!
People from Hwy 24 South, down Colborne Street up Wayne Gretzky to Henry Street on Friday, May 1st may well be forgiven for double-checking their calendars, as the JCI Brantford Santa Claus Float went travelling past.
JCI Brantford President David DeDominicis explains that a generous Alumni, whom had provided free indoor storage of the float for the past 15+ years, had sold his farm, necessitating the cross-town, off-season sightings of the float, which left smiles on the faces of hundreds of puzzled Brantford residents.
Soon, the float will once again move, to another temporary location, causing more heads to turn. “The generosity of several business owners in Brantford was tested on very short notice, when we started calling Friday morning, requesting help; we found out late Thursday afternoon about the need to move the float, and one of our Members stepped up, calling every company she could think of, until she heard the magic word ‘yes’. Unfortunately, of the two companies who agreed to help on a short term basis, each fell through, due to circumstances outside everyone’s control. We continue to seek out a viable short term storage facility, allowing this valuable asset to get under cover from the elements, until ultimately we can negotiate for a long-term location”, says DeDominicis.
JCI Brantford Members along with family and friends, built the float in 2004, and have proudly watched every year since, as Santa sits atop the float bringing smiles to the children of Brantford, at the annual JCI Brantford Santa Claus Parade.
The float reaches a height of 13’6”, requiring a clearance of at least 13’8’’, measuring approximately 35’ in length, which limits options. DeDominicis continues “As the float has wiring built in for the lighting and sound systems, along with a great deal of fabric, it is essential that the float is stored indoors. JCI Brantford is hoping for an affordable space, one which we could potentially use for the storage of all our supplies for other projects and possibly a meeting space. Funds are limited, but perhaps there is a property where the owner would be willing to trade recognition as a Parade Sponsor/Supporter, for a lowered rental rate.”

JCI Brantford presents the Second Annual Breakfast in Brant Park with a portion of the proceeds supporting the Charity of Hope.
On Saturday, July 10th, 2010 in beautiful Brant Park, JCI Brantford members will be cooking up a hearty hot breakfast of sausage, eggs, hashbrowns and pancakes, for only $5.00 per child and $10.00 per adult. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 am until 1l:00 am.
Ticket price includes breakfast, all day admission to Brant Park with access to the 1 acre pool; games, entertainment and use of the large Adventure Bouncer (9:00 am – 1:00 pm)
JCI Brantford, well know for organizing the Santa Claus Parade for the past 35 years, is excited to offer a summer event that will involve and entertain the entire family. JCI Brantford anticipates that the Breakfast in Brant Park will become a summer tradition for families much like the winter tradition of attending the Santa Claus Parade.
Darren Gagne 2010 chair for the second annual Breakfast in Brant Park says “Last years Breakfast in Brant Park was a success despite the rain; hopefully this year the weather will be on our side for a full day of fun and enjoyment. As with last year we have entertainment, clowns, face painting, balloon animals, a bouncer, games and more…”
As an organization that has been a part of Brantford for over 65 years JCI Brantford was excited to find that the Charity of Hope established a Chapter in Brantford in 2009. “The Charity of Hope raises funds that aid children in need within the community. Being able to support another organization in its initial development, while providing our members with a new experience, fits our belief that service to humanity is the best work of life.” Says Gagne. “ We invite the community to join us in Brant Park on Saturday, July 10th for a hot breakfast and fun!”.
